structural barn conversion

BARN CONVERSION CLEVERTON

We were requested to provide a scheme for the refurbishment of this barn. Elements of the barn’s structure had failed and had to be repaired or re-built. The Architect wanted to create a modern interior with a “floating” staircase.

New walls were built, incorporating buttresses to retain out-of-plumb walls. The roof structure was repaired, and a new glazed gable constructed.

A new central staircase was designed and constructed with a single central structural steel “stringer” off which the treads were cantilevered from opposite sides.
